Nail Matrix: What is it?
Do you want nails in great shape? It all starts with the nail matrix! However, what is the nail matrix? Have you ever learned about the nail matrix? In this guide, Maryton Nail Supply will help you understand what the nail matrix is. Let’s keep reading!
In fact, the nail matrix is a bit like the secret factory where your nail is made! It is hidden just under the base of the nail, where the lunula (that little whitish area in the shape of a half-moon) begins. It is responsible for the formation and growth of your nails. Basically, without a matrix, no nails!
Its role? To produce the cells that will form the nail plate. These cells multiply, harden, and presto, they make your nail advance towards the tip of your finger.
But be careful, even if the matrix is protected by the cuticle, it remains vulnerable. A shock, an infection or overly aggressive chemicals can damage it and slow down (or stop) the growth of the nail. So, we should use a dedicated manicure kit to pamper it!
Where is the nail matrix located?
The nail matrix is located just under the base of the nail, partly hidden by the skin and protected by the cuticle. If you look at your nails, you can sometimes see a small whitish area in the shape of a half-moon, called a lunula. This lunula is actually the visible part of the matrix. Everything else is nice and warm under the skin, hidden from view.
Remember:
- The visible lunula: this is the tip of the iceberg! It gives you a clue about the size and condition of your matrix.
- The hidden part: it extends under the skin and plays an essential role in the growth of the nail.
Imagine a tree root. The lunula is the root that you see, but the real work is done deep down, where the nail comes to life. Protecting this area ensures strong and healthy nails.
